June 2006 Open Show

The Bohunt Centre,
Longmoor Road,
Liphook
Hants

Sunday 25th June 2006

Judges: John Frankham (Ladstaff) - Bitches
  Steve Robinson (Winsbry) - Dogs

Referee: Ann Gatenby (Kerrisdale)

"I would like to thank the members and committee of the Downlands SBT Club for giving me the opportunity to judge their show.  I was generally happy with my winners;
in particular Best Dog & Reserve Best Dog and also the Best Bitch which I got to go over in the challenge for B.I.S.  I was however, concerned at the number of mouth faults
and the fact that far too many dogs were carrying excess weight and showing very little muscle definition." - Steve Robinson

Ms. P. Funnell
3rd BERLSCARG MISS CHINZANO AT DYNASTAFF Mr. D. Manito
Class 9: Open Bitch   (6, 1 absent)

Black brindle.  A real nice bitch, nothing exaggerated, good head, the right body type, front a rib lovely, a good workman-like bitch.

Mr. & Mrs. S. C. Hopkins
2nd CATHURES CUTE CANDY

Tiger brindle.  I liked this bitch, a rough diamond sort, lovely head, powerful muzzle.  It would not be handled, it's much too fat and needs work.

Mr. J. McEwan
3rd STARWIND SEQUOIA Miss B. Turner
Class 10: Veteran Dog   (1)
1st VEKLORRA ON A HY

The real star of the day for me.  An eight year old dog that put the competition to shame in terms of condition and fitness.  His head is clean and not overdone in any way.  The outline is pleasing from all angles, showing neat front, level topline, trim waist and tuck up.              Angulation is good both front and rear and this coupled with his conditioning allows him to move as well, if not better than any Stafford around.  A real credit to his owner and a pity that he is approaching the  twilight of his Career.  Best Dog, Best Veteran and Best In Show

L. Brown and K. Harper
Class 11: Minor Puppy Dog   (8, 1 withdrawn)
1st BLUNDERBUST SURE SHOT

Standard size black brindle dog who won the class easily despite being a little stronger than I would prefer.  Nice clean front with ample rib and level topline.  Strong head with dark round eye and neat ears.  Moved better than any other dog in the class.  I just hope that he does not go any stronger.
Mr. G. R. M. Frost
2nd JANASTAFF PRETTY BOY

Black Brindle Dog, a little more up on the leg than 1st and not quite so strong.  Clean front and head, slightly longer in the body than 1st.  Moved okay, but I preferred the overall balance of the class winner.

Miss B. Turner
3rd IZOMIS WOODYA LOOK AT THAT IM WITH IDYLLICSTAFF Mrs. L. Shipp
Reserve ODENSTAFF PIRATE PATCH Mr. & Mrs. D. King
VHC DHUSTAFF AURORA BOREALIS Mr. P. & Mrs. S. Crawford
Class 12: Puppy Dog   (2)
1st TRUFFLESTAFF KID GLOVES

Good size black brindle dog, clean front, neat tight feet, strong but not overdone head with dark eye and neat ears.  Has ample rib for his age and reasonable rear angulation.  Moved well but was carrying too much weight for me.  Had he been a little fitter, he would have pushed harder in the final line up.  Still a very promising puppy that went Best Puppy Dog, Reserve Best Dog and Best Puppy In Show.

Mr. & Mrs. S. C. Hopkins
2nd CROSSGUNS SHOT LOW

Brindle dog with large head and short muzzle.  Very strong bone and barrel ribs.  Short in the back.  A very strong dog that will appeal to some but I preferred the cleaner lines and movement of 1st.

Mr. P. Luff
Class 13: Junior Dog   (2)
1st LORD OF THE LEYS

Black dog with white blaze on chest.  Clean front with neat enough feet.  Short in back with well developed ribcage.  Rear quarters were well angulated and his outline was one of overall balance.

Mrs. J. & Miss E. Wilder
2nd KANDELKA JAYWIN OF JINGARA

Very similar in type to 1st except a little cleaner around the fore face.  On balance, I preferred the movement of the class winner, but very little to choose between them.

Mrs. W. A. & Mr. J. R. Alderton
Class 14: Novice Dog   (5)
1st TRUFFLESTAFF KID GLOVES Mr. & Mrs. S. C. Hopkins
2nd LORD OF THE LEYS Mrs. J. & Miss E. Wilder

VHC BRIDLETOWN PORTHOS Mr. N. & Mrs. J. Walkley
Class 15: Graduate Dog   (6, 2 absent)
1st ABSOLSTAFF APPLE JACK ShCM

Strong dog in both head and bone.  Large skull, short muzzle with neat   ear carriage.  Clean enough front, barrel ribs and short in back.  Balances out overall but a little strong for me personally and would prefer a little more leg.

Mr. & Mrs. Whiteside
2nd MOSSTAFF CRUSH

Very similar type of dog to 1st  in size, strength and make up.  I preferred the ear carriage and slightly longer muzzle / less pronounced stop of 1st.

Mr. R. Butler
3rd KERRISDALE IRON DRAGON Mr. P. Gatenby
Reserve BRIDLETOWN PORTHOS Mr. N. & Mrs. J. Walkley
Class 16: Post Graduate Dog   (5, 1 absent)
1st VEKLORRA LOSE YOURSELF

Black brindle dog.  Clean enough on the front, strong head but not overdone.  Dark eye, neat ears, ample rib and short back.  Overall presented a clean outline and moved well.

Mr. & Mrs. H. J. Keogh
2nd PRIDE OF TIME

Standard size Red dog with no exaggeration and not overdone in any way.  In reasonable condition, if carrying a little weight but overall I preferred the balance and conditioning of the 1st dog.

Mr. & Mrs. S. C. Hopkins
3rd BRIDLETOWN PORTHOS Mr. N. & Mrs. J. Walkley
Reserve SARLUCEAN MY GUY Ms. N. Smith
Class 17: Limit Dog   (5, 2 absent)
1st BETHANE SUNNY JIM taf

Standard size black dog.  Strong head with short muzzle and round eye.  Front clean enough, short back and sufficient rib.  Well angulated rear quarters which enabled him to move okay.

Miss A. Brown
2nd PRIDE OF TIME Mr. & Mrs. S. C. Hopkins
3rd COACHMAN'S MIDNIGHT DREAM Mr. J. Voller
Class 18: Open Dog   (3, 1 absent)
1st COACHMAN'S MIDNIGHT DREAM

Top size brindle dog that despite his size actually presents quite a balanced picture.  Would have preferred to see him carrying less weight and in harder condition but won this class on merit.

Mr. J. Voller
2nd WARNSTAFF EURYALLIS A.J. Tate and N. J. Linchan
