September 2011 Open Show

The Bohunt Centre,
Longmoor Road,
Liphook,
Hants,
GU30 7NY

Sunday 25th September 2011

Judges:
  John Joyce (Jollyjons) Dogs
  Shaun Stone (Ashbull) Bitches
Referee:
  Larry Lunn (Millgarth)

First I would like to offer thanks to the Committee and the Membership for electing me to Judge at such a prodigious Club Show, and also for all the Committee’s hard work, in making it such an enjoyable day, a special thanks too, for the ring Steward, (Mr Alan Muir), for his efforts on the day. Only regret that I wasn’t able to attract a better entry for this deserving Club.
Pleased to say that there was only two cases of exhibits with minor dentition faults, so I felt there wasn’t any need to mention teeth/bites in my critiques. All major decisions reached amicably between the Bitch judge, (Mr Shaun Stone), and I, so there was no need to call upon the very able Referee, Larry Lunn to adjudicate on any decision.

John Joyce

Firstly I would like to thank Downlands for inviting me to judge their Breed Open Show and making me, my Wife and Son feel very welcome. Thank you to Joe Samby for stewarding and making things run smoothly. I would also like to thank all of the exhibitors that entered and took my decisions in a good sporting manner.

I would like to mention it was an honour to assess my Co Judges Best Dog World Slov Uk Ch Stormbull Solo Jw, Even at 7 yrs he is still a superb animal who still can compete with the best on the circuit at the moment in my opinion but today had to settle for RBIS to his Daughter. Seeing the two of them side by side for BIS was the complete picture for me and made my day.

UK, SLOV & WORLD CH. STORMBULL SOLO

B/B/W.  Really delighted to be given the opportunity to go over such a splendid example of the breed.  Nothing that I can add that hasn’t already been said or written about this worthy Champion, except to say that the ravages of time seem to have left this dog untouched, still looks like he could challenge the very best, without being out of his depth, looked anything but a Veteran. Coat in excellent condition, presented in fit/hard condition Fully deserved his top honours today Reserve Best In Show, Best Dog and Best Veteran, all in all, a credit to the Breed.

Mr. J. Mace and Mr. M. Davies

PRIDE OF TIME

R/W. Dog that is carrying his advancing years well, whilst holding onto many of his virtues. Clean, wide front, good bone, pasterns still strong, well laid shoulders, deep brisket. Good body lines, no real apparent muscle wastage, level top line also held whilst on his, jaunt up the mat, still moving well given his age. Typical Red Head which has good breed points topped by neat rose ears, head just starting to show signs of age. His Owner /Handler must take credit for his fitness and condition.

ZAKSTAFF DARK KNIGHT

B/B.  Stood alone, four square very athletic looking dog, with excellent body lines, prominent fore-chest. ample bone good lay of shoulders, no looseness at the pasterns or elbows. Head coming on nicely with correct proportions, dark eyes of correct size, rose ears all giving a typical expression. Muscle development also coming along fine, movement slightly loose/gangly but will improve with maturity, to be ultra critical I thought today he was looking a little too stripped. IZUMIS COTTONEYE JOE WITH RAMBLESTAFF

Attractively marked pied dog that I have judged before, still taken with his pitch black, round eyes that drew my attention to his strong masculine, well proportioned head, which was brimming with power. Good muzzle, strong underjaw, neat rose ears, strong bone, wide front, good pasterns leading to solid feet. Body matched his head and was equally as powerful, well sprung ribs short coupled, rear quarters matched the rest of him. Moved well for his handler, nice specimen of the Breed, felt today he wasn’t in as hard condition as the previous time

Wow what a stunner,  she has beauty, class, power and elegance stamped all over her, Head and Expression for me is all good as they come, good skull to muzzle ratio, deep stop, clean lipped, prettiest dark eyes and neat rose ears which she uses to give a beautiful expression, well laid shoulders, good brisket and square straight front, neat tight feet and well up on pasterns, ample rib, good bend of stifle and tuck up, strong rear quarters and well let down hocks giving her a strong powerful backend, moved up/down mat with Power, Drive and Elegance  into a perfect free stand. Her coat and fitness condition was superb, in my opinion this bitch is the total package, and is a long way from being finished yet and think many more big wins to come. Thank you to owner/handler for allowing me to assess this bitch at this level, it a total privilege as I just couldn’t keep my eyes of her. BEST BITCH and in total agreement with co-judge BEST IN SHOW.

RAMBLESTAFF COLOUR MY DAYS

Quality Black bitch full of breed type, top size but well balanced bitch, lovely head of correct proportions, clean lipped with plenty of under jaw, deep stop and dark round eyes, neat ears which she used at all times, good depth of brisket & ample bone, straight front, good shoulder placement with no looseness, level topine, strong powerful backend, she has very clean outlines from all angles and was on her toes at all times, moved powerfully up/down mat. Good honest bitch that I very much liked, good luck with her. Came close in challenge for reserve best bitch.

Mr. & Mrs. Westerby
3rd CURSUS SUMMER STORM J.W.

Another beautiful bitch, very pretty but strong clean head, good width of muzzle and deep stop, dark eyes & neat ears, good front with enough bone, good topline and rib, great tuck up and bend of stifle, well muscled rear quarters and correct tail set, once settle moved well, she must have been on a lot of walks as this bitch was a fit as a flea, I liked this bitch a lot but have seen her in better form before, for me today was stripped a bit to much and could do with bit more covering which in the end cost her a higher place. No doubt will go all the way & good luck.
