February 2007 Championship Show

Arun Leisure Centre,
Felpham Way,
Felpham,
Bognor Regis,
West Sussex,
PO22 8ED

Sunday 18th February 2007

Judges: Mick Clarke (Boldmore) - Dogs
  Dean Cund (Chelmstaff) - Bitches

Referee: Tommy Curd (Knockon)

"I would like to thank the Downlands committee for affording me the honour of judging at their first Championship Show. Special thanks to my two very efficient
stewards.

The committee deserve congratulations for the smooth running of the show and the welcoming atmosphere. I was very pleased to find some very good dogs to
go over but I am concerned about the number of bad mouths that I found today." - Mick Clarke

"I was honoured and privileged to have been invited to judge bitches at the Downlands S.B.T. Clubs 1st Championship show.  Many thanks to the officers,
committee and exhibitors for a wonderful day and giving me the opportunity to judge on such a special occasion and a landmark for the club.  I wish the
Downlands all the very best for the future. Also not forgetting the excellent job done by my two ring stewards, Mr. Joe Samby and Mr. John Joyce for
keeping everything running smoothly.
A few point of concerns I found when judging, I've never seen so many bad mouths on display at a show I've judged in the past, I had every type of mouth
fault you care to mention, so please be mindful of this in future breeding programmes, also splayed thin feet with long toes - this is something as a breed we
need to get away from, well padded feet are what are needed - these act as the dog's shock absorbers.  Conditioning was another point of concern,  some
otherwise excellent bitches paid the price for this, a couple also paid the price for overdoing it in the fitness department, both ends of the scale spoil the
overall picture and throw balance out of proportion.  There also seems to be a trend creeping in for over-long and over-exaggerated stifles where the hocks
are set several inches back behind the pelvis.  On a good note, heads were excellent and very well- balanced in most cases with correct length of muzzle to
skull ratio. I was also most pleased with my final line up of bitches.
The puppy classes as well as junior had some excellent prospects in and bode well for the future of the breed." - Dean Cund
