NEWSLETTER NUMBER 1

OCTOBER 1989

Nettle Cottage

Dear Members,

Well, we've had our first "function" in the form of a handling match, judged very ably by Mr. Bryn Cadogan.  The day started with a Founder members meeting in the morning, because, as the Kennel Club have turned down our first application for registration, we had to decide what was the next move.  The meeting was attended by 65 people, 35 of whom were Founder members.  In fact, we had ten new founder members enrolling on the day.  We now have 93 Founder members.  The general, may I say unanimous feeling was - YES, we go on.  After the meeting, there was a short meeting of the Steering committee who elected a President, Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and (joint) show managers.

After that, there was plenty of food on offer, and at 2pm the match started.  Everyone helped make the day a success, and there were 45 handlers with their dogs, making 85 entries.  Approximately 120 people attended the match, and the classes were well filled.  The Best Handler in Match was Mr. Mark Flack from Waltham Chase, Southampton, who is an active member of the Portsmouth and District Bull Breeds Handling Club.  We extend our congratulations to him.

Our next event will be on Sunday 3rd December (at the same venue) to be arranged by our show managers.  You will be notified of this at a later date, when we hope you will all be able to come (and possibly bring some more interested parties!).

Our finances are in a healthy state, but if anyone wants to run any money-making events, the committee will be happy to support these functions.  Jumble sales and car boot sales are quite good money-makers.

All you Stafford owners in the south, please do enter your dogs at shows in the south where Staffords are scheduled.  The K.C. will not take us seriously if we do not have reasonable entries at these shows.

We are hoping to get a Newsletter out to members at regular intervals, and if you have anything you would like to say, or any puppies for sale or dogs at stud to advertise, write to us.  If we have enough material, we will try to get one out around Christmas (you might like to put in some Christmas greetings).

Good luck to you all and your dogs.  I'm sure that, with enthusiasm and plenty of action, we will eventually get Kennel Club recognition.

Yours sincerely,

Ann Gatenby
