Downlands fulfils Grand DNA Pledge

May 17th 2001 - The Downlands has fulfilled its pledge, made by the 1999 - 2000 committee, of donating £1000 to the Animal Health Trust Hereditary Cataract DNA Testing fund.  The money was raised in a variety of ways, including a sponsored slim by current Chairman Ben Kemp raising £366 to date, an exemption show run by Secretary Ann Gatenby which raised £158.35 but suffered due to the Foot and Mouth crisis, and by charging a nominal fee for the Christmas Party and donating the proceeds which raised £191, the generous donations of club members throughout the year which raised £214, and £70.65 donated by the club to make up the £1000.  The cheque has been received by Ivor Keyes, who asked that all members of the club be thanked for their support.

2001 Annual General Meeting

March 25th 2001 - The Downlands 2001 AGM took place at Petersfield Community Centre.  There was a slightly disappointing turnout, due in part to the Foot and Mouth Crisis and to it being scheduled on Mother's day.  The Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer delivered their annual reports and the committee for the forthcoming year were elected.  Pat Pritchard was elected for a further two-year term as President.  The change to rule 14 was approved by the membership and will go forward to The Kennel Club.  The membership fees were frozen for the fifth year running.

A member's match was held after the AGM, judged by Andy Land, and won by Derrick Biard's bitch Kerrisdale Queen of The May.

At the first meeting of the new committee the following officers were re-elected - Chairman - Ben Kemp, Secretary - Ann Gatenby, Treasurer - Vickie Kemp.  Andy Land was elected as Vice-Chairman.  Alan Foreman, Danny Sullivan and Jean Sullivan were welcomed as new committee members.  A full report on the proceedings will appear in the next Newsletter.
